Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)

Holistic Med Spa & Laser offers face lift surgery for patients in Greenwich, Yorktown and surrounding areas of Connecticut and New York.

What is a Face Lift?

It is well known that as we age, the affects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and use of our facial muscles weakens the attachments of our skin to the underlying tissues. Initially this is seen as wrinkling of the skin around the eyes and forehead. It progresses to deepening of the folds on the side of the nose and mouth as well as bags around the eyes and laxity of skin along the jawline and neck. Excessive sun exposure, pollution and smoking significantly accelerate this progression.

When consider plastic surgery, it is important to know which procedures can solve the problem you are looking to correct. A face lift is meant to reposition fat, tighten muscles, and redrape the skin on the face.

How is a Face Lift Performed in Greenwich?

Face lifts are divided into two major types and the choice of procedure depends on the degree of facial aging, a patient’s age as well as amount of downtime one can tolerate. A limited face lift involves an incision just in front of the ear and into the hairline. This procedure is also known by different names such as a quicklift, a mini-lift, MACS lift, or short-scar face lift. This procedure mainly targets the jawline and lateral neck and can be performed in the office under oral sedation anesthesia. It is done mainly in patients who are younger, with early jowling (loss of the crisp jawline), and those who do not want a longer operation and recovery. A full face lift involves incisions both in front of the ear and hairline as well as behind the ear. This procedure is often combined with liposuction of the chin and neck and is reserved for patients with more severe jowling or neck waddles and requires a longer operation and recovery.

A face lift (or Rhytidectomy) can reverse much of these natural aging processes in the neck and jawline. Since it does little to address the changes seen around the eyes and/or forehead, it is often combined with other adjunctive procedures (i.e. eyelid surgery, liposuction, chin and cheek implants and laser skin resurfacing) to achieve remarkable improvements in your facial appearance.

Depending on if other procedures are performed at the same time, a face lift can take from two to four hours. Since the incisions are made in inconspicuous places, scarring is minimal.

What Can I Expect After a Facelift in Greenwich?

Most patients recover in two to three weeks following surgery—during this time swelling and bruising should be greatly reduced. If a mini-lift if performed, recovery is generally less than one week. After the procedure, Dr. Singh will wrap your head in a bandage to reduce swelling, and he will also ask that you keep your head elevated. Should you feel discomfort, Dr. Singh can prescribe an oral pain medication.
